The value of having your golf clubs custom fit to your game can make or break your enjoyment of golf.

Golfers everywhere are beginning to learn the importance of custom fit golf clubs.  As a result, the big club companies and the retail outlets are taking notice and jumping on the bandwagon.

Many of them now claim they can offer you custom fit golf clubs.

However, as a custom clubfitter and clubmaker, their definition of custom fit golf clubs is very different from what we consider to be a true set of custom fit golf clubs.

This is their basic procedure for what they call a custom fitting:

• You hit a few balls using some demo clubs.  The salesman takes a few measurements (usually clubhead speed and your wrist-to-floor measurement).  He then makes a length recommendation and a shaft flex recommendation (A,R,S,X) based on those measurements.  Of course, your custom clubs happen to be a pre-built set that's in the store - all ready for you to take home.

No, you don't.......  

In fact, it's impossible with this type of fitting.

For starters, there are 5 general clubfitting categories and 21 individual golf club specifications that have an effect on those categories.

There's too much to cover during a real clubfitting session to fit it into a 1/2 hour session at a retail store.

The short answer is, "Lots more than you're going to get from a retail store or from a fitting cart session."
